Foundational Courses

These courses have allowed me to delve beyond the physical practice of dance and explore new areas of knowledge.

Electrics Practicum

The Electrics Practicum course was fascinating. In my opinion, lighting is an important aspect to any dance production. However, I never stopped to think about the specificities of lighting design. This class has allowed me to understand basic electricity, wiring a lightbulb, and the intricacies behind lighting entire productions. Because I took this class online, I did not get the chance to work with the lights in the Newhart Theatre which was disappointing. Nevertheless, I am still thankful to have gained knowledge in this area of study.

Dance History

It is incredibly important to understand the history that gave rise to the art form I have committed so much of my life to. With this in mind, I entered Dance History with an eager mindset to learn about how dance was shaped around the globe. While this course heavily focused on Eurocentric material, it allowed me to think critically about the immense contributions from other areas in the world. I walked away from the class with a better understanding of the contributions of artists from a variety of different racial and ethnic backgrounds, yet am eager to learn more.

Dance Kinesiology

Dance kinesiology was an insightful course that equipped me with the tools needed to succeed in cross-training. I have always valued cross-training, but I never really knew the best approach to the practice. Throughout this course, we created weekly training logs that facilitated the supplemental training in our dance regiment. We tracked our progress in order to meet a set of unique goals, and throughout the semester I observed noticeable improvements in my stamina and lower body muscular endurance. I took this course during the online term, so the cross-training was especially valuable in keeping me in shape
