Involvement & Accolades
DFPA Studio Manager
In the fall of 2022, I was accepted as the DFPA Studio Manager. I have really enjoyed this position, as it has allowed me to get more involved with the production office. I have gained insight into how the logistics of our dance performances operate, and I have been able to organize and book studio space for our community. It has also been satisfying to represent the dance department in the production office, as my presence allows others to clarify any lingering questions or uncertainties they have about our program. I look forward to continuing this position next semester.
Dance Honors Society
Dance Honors Society is such a great organization! I enjoy connecting with the other students in the major outside of our required coursework, and our mission and goals in the organization fuse the two things I love--dance and social justice. Aside from the service events, it is also amazing to have our DHS social events, as it gives us all a chance to be together and create fun memories.
Serra Family Endowed Scholarship for Dance
& Praxis and Poesis Award
I am grateful to have received these departmental awards for my artistry and commitment to caring for others.
Most Improved Freshman Dancer
I received the "Most Improved Freshman Dancer" award at the end of the semester award ceremony. I had pushed myself throughout the year and grown much stronger, even persevering through two operations on my toes. It was very special to receive this award and be recognized for my hard work.
Rooms Symposium
Being a part of the iconic and historical work of Rooms was special in itself, and the Rooms symposium enhanced this significance. It was amazing to learn even more about the work by talking with experts and listening to former dancers, and this event really reminded me of how lucky I was to be involved. Our Zoom breakout session with Neil gave me the opportunity to talk with dancers who performed the piece around the country. It was fascinating to discuss about the similarities and differences we all experienced doing this work. While the COVID-19 pandemic has put a hold on many important things in college, this experience may not have been possible without our virtual Zoom platform.
Rolling Meadows
In the fall of freshman year, I had the opportunity to travel with my peers and instructors to Rolling Meadows High School. Not only did I get to perform for the students, but I also got to take some great dance classes and talk with the high schoolers about our incredible dance program. Because this event was early in my freshman year, it was the first time I performed in the major, which was very exciting. Additionally, the bus ride to the high school was a fun way to feel part of our dance community. Overall, I had an amazing time being a part of this event!
Student Representative for Academic Program Review
I was proud to represent the dance department on the Academic Program Review panel. Here, a handful of students from each sector of the DFPA discussed the pros and cons of our respective programs. It was interesting to hear the opinions of other programs, and it was nice to feel heard and supported. I was glad to contribute towards this crucial step in the further development of our program.
Dance Composition Showcase
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I was able to participate in my first dance film. I was cast in Masha Bandouli's Mic Check 1.2 for her dance composition piece, and through this process, I had the opportunity to learn the ins-and-outs of dance filmmaking.
Menswear Basketball Game Performance
Performing Menswear at one of Loyola's basketball games was a wonderful experience and a great way to showcase a sliver of our dance program to the rest of the student body. It was both exciting and nerve-wracking to perform in front of people who were most likely not seasoned in eclectic dance forms, yet I enjoyed this opportunity and had a lot of fun.
