Social Justice
One of the most compelling tenents of Loyola's dance program is its commitment to social justice. I never considered how I could intertwine dance and social justice; however, I have honed in on several ways to help make a difference. In my freshman year, I was a part of the NEDA Walk, an event to raise awareness about eating disorders. In addition, I am a part of the service committee in the Dance Honors Society, which has allowed me to get Loyola’s dancers involved in LoyolaTHON, another organization I am passionate about on campus. I am a vice president of LoyolaTHON, and our team works towards making a difference in pediatric health by fundraising for Lurie Children's Hospital, raising awareness, and organizing Loyola Chicago's annual dance marathon. We work towards making healthcare more equitable for children and their families, and throughout my time at Loyola, I have worked to directly connect the Dance Honors Society and LoyolaThon. Each year, I help create and organize a Dance Honors Society team for the dance marathon, and in 2021, DHS was the top fundraising team! This has been an invaluable way to get the Loyola dance community involved in an important social justice cause.
